What’s it like to intern at RE•WORK

We all know that time flies when you’re busy and having fun, and that’s certainly the case after 6 months being part of the RE•WORK team!

I was lucky to start my internship during a rather calm period. Our next event was in two months so I had time to learn more about the team and my role as a Marketing & Social Media Intern. To summarise my role: I was in charge of creating promotional material, finding media partners, inviting press to attend our events, and of course, taking care of all of our social media platforms!

September 2017

We kicked off with the Deep Learning Summit & AI Assistant Summit in London. The event was made up of two tracks with speakers from companies such as DeepMind & Amazon sharing their knowledge about the latest insights and technology advancements. During their talks, I was updating our audience by sharing content on our Facebook, Linkedin & Twitter accounts.

Although each team member has their specific tasks during the event, events are never predictable, and everyone pitches in to make sure everything gets done and is running smoothly. This has been a great opportunity to learn more about their role and diversify my tasks. So here I was, taking notes during Ed Newton-Rex’s presentation, Founder & CEO at Jukedeck. He showed us how his team are building AI that can compose original music. I was surprised and amazed how artificial intelligence could be used for creative purposes.

October 2017

This October, the RE•WORK team flew out to Montreal, "The Silicon Valley of AI" to host the first ever Canadian Deep Learning Summit. The event was a great opportunity for me to compare how an event was managed in a new location. It was really rewarding reading Adelyn Zhou’s article from TOPBTOS nominating us “1st Best AI Conference For Business Leaders in 2018” and hearing our attendee’s positive feedback during the networking drinks reception:

“With RE•WORK you can have a drink with Yann LeCun, the father of deep learning and meet smart industrials and great great scientists all at the same place.” Augustin Marty, Deepomatic

“Come to events like this!! It’s so unique and give you a great rounded view of the space. It’s one of the only events that combines business and applications.” Ira Kemelmacher, Facebook

“This is my first ever AI conference and it’s been incredible so far. I am really looking forward to the panel session” Ian Wayne, Systems Group

Like Ian Wayne, I was looking forward to hearing from the world’s leading AI Pioneers: Yoshua Bengio, Geoffrey Hinton & Yann LeCun during our Panel Session! They shared their research and discussed the AI and deep learning ecosystem in Canada in a relaxed and interactive atmosphere.
On the second day of the summit we hosted the Women in Machine Intelligence Dinner with inspiring talks from Aparna Lakshmiratan from Facebook, Adriana Romero from the Montreal Institute of Learning Algorithms and Layla El Asri from Maluuba.

December 2017

“It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas”! December is here, it has already snowed once in London and there’s only 2 months to go before the end of my internship. What better way to celebrate the end of 2017 than to travel to a surprise destination for our Christmas Fun Days! After 4:30 hours on the train here we were, in Edinburgh! Even though a storm was heading towards the city, we were really lucky with the weather and had fun exploring the old town and it’s famous Christmas market. We also went to an aerial yoga class and had our Christmas dinner in a magnificent venue where we learned how to ceilidh dance! This kind of activity is not only great fun but it’s great for team building.

I will finish my internship at the end of January, so until then, we’re all focusing on our upcoming events:
