Meet inspiring women in Machine Intelligence
On 11th October RE•WORK will be hosting the first Woman in Machine Intelligence Dinner in Montreal. Join us and hear from leading female experts in machine intelligence and discuss the impact of this rapidly advancing technology.
With only a few spaces left register here fast to secure your place. The dinner is open to anyone keen to support advancing women in the industry!
Speakers include:
Layla El Asri, Research Manager at Maluuba: discussing how conversational interfaces learn.
A Canadian AI company that’s teaching machines to think, reason and communicate with humans (acquired by Microsoft in January 2017). Based in the AI epicenter of Montréal, Maluuba applies deep learning techniques to solve complex problems in language understanding. Layla’s work explores artificial intelligence in the context of language understanding, dialogue and human-machine interaction. Layla leads a team seeking to build artificial intelligence systems that are knowledgeable and can exchange information with users to help users accomplish tasks or gain knowledge. Layla completed her PhD at Université de Lorraine in France.
In the run up to the event, Layla shared her most current research with us and explored them impact of conversational AI on society as well as how she is working to teach conversations to machines. You can read Layla's guest blog post here.
Navrina Singh, Director Business Development in Artificial Intelligence at Microsoft.
Compering the evening will be Navrina whose current focus is on Machine vision & Video intelligence. Prior to that Navrina spent 12 years in engineering & product management roles at Qualcomm. Navrina is a Young Global Leader of World Economic Forum and a member of the global council on Artificial Intelligence and Robotics, which will explore how developments in these fields could impact industry, governments and society in the future. Navrina is an active advocate for Diversity and Inclusion in Tech and also invests significant time in advising startups. She holds a Masters in Electrical engineering from University of Wisconsin-Madison & a MBA from University of Southern California.
Aparna Lakshmiratan, Technical Program Manager of Applied Machine Learning at Facebook will discuss designing AI algorithms to power new experiences.
Aparna works at the intersection of cutting edge technology and its deployment to products at massive scale. She is currently driving their program to build new algorithms for ranking and personalization, and shipping them to power products for over 2B people. Prior to joining Facebook, Aparna was a principal program manager at Microsoft building and shipping several products powered by machine learning including a new Click Prediction system for Ads and several enhancements to the Speller and Query Alterations engine in Bing. Aparna was also part of the CHIL (computer human interactive learning) group at Microsoft Research where she worked on an interactive machine learning platform to democratize machine learning and make it more accessible to non-experts. She has a PhD in Computer Science from the AI Lab at MIT.
Adriana Romero, Post-Doctoral Researcher at the Montreal Institute for Learning Algorithms. She will share with guests deep learning models for personalized medicine.
Adriana’s current research, advised by Prof. Yoshua Bengio, revolves around deep learning techniques to tackle medical data analysis challenges, addressing impactful problems for society by paving the road towards enabling widespread usage of personalized medicine. Adriana received her Ph.D. from the University of Barcelona in 2015 with a thesis on assisting the training of deep neural networks with applications to computer vision, advised by Dr. Carlo Gatta.
