Since creating Stella, a solar-powered family car designed to travel over 1,000 kilometres on a single charge, Solar Team Eindhoven has received world wide notoriety and success, including World Solar Challenges and TechCrunch's Crunchies awards - beating Apple Pay to first place in the 'Best Technological Achievement' category. The vehicle is in fact so efficient, it actually generates more energy than it consumes, which can be fed back into the energy grid and have a beneficial impact on society. A truly intelligent car, Stella Lux has a smart geolocation system, collects environmental data, and connects to other cars and smartphones to create a carefree, energy-efficient experience. The all-student team, who believe that solar-powered electrical mobility is the future and will transform society, was co-founded by Lex Hoefsloot. Solar cars have always been seen as unlikely combination and only feasible in the distant future. With the introduction of electric cars, light materials and better solar panels combined with some clever thinking, that future might arrive earlier than many people think. If we want to live in a world in which sustainable mobility is available for anyone at extremely low cost, solar cars are the way to go.
